MISSION: To provide a rigorous college preparatory high school in Madison County, Florida, that promotes student ownership of learning through a content-rich liberal arts curriculum emphasizing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).


Greetings to all current students, parents, and prospective students and parents of James Madison Preparatory High School! Thank you for visiting our beautiful website!

We welcome anyone interested in furthering the education of their children with challenging and enlightening coursework within a safe and caring environment. Our school is a place for any qualified 9th grader who is looking for a college preparatory education that will help lead them to successful citizenship and a fulfilling and satisfying life.

Fifty new 9th graders will join our 10th graders in 2014, and there are 10 open seats in our rising sophomore class as well. Our school family is growing!

JMPHS provides the educational stimulus necessary to challenge young people to excel. If you are a young person or parent who wants to learn more about our school, please browse through these web pages. JMPHS Open House to be held In February

JMPHS is holding an open house on Thursday, February 27 from 6:30 - 8pm for prospective students and parents. An information session will be at 7pm with tours of the school available.

Applications for 2014-15 will be accepted beginning February 1. For more information, contact the school office at (850) 253-2173.

JMPHS Welcomes Bill Gemmill as Principal

There are a lot of new things in Bill Gemmill's life right now including a new career in a brand new charter school and in a new city. Bill Gemmill is James Madison Preparatory High School's principal. He moved here from Nashville, Tenn., where he has held positions as a public school teacher, assistant principal, a computer aided designer, and has helped educate legislators when working as a teacher advocate for an independent teachers association. He graduated from the University of Tennessee and began working at I.T.T. where he taught computer- aided design, previously called "drafting". He then went to work in the public school system, where he taught in the classroom for 12 years before going into administration as an assistant principal. for two years and then as a principal. for six. After retiring from the public school system he went to work for P.E.T., Professional Educators of Tennessee, where he was still an educator, but instead of children, educated legislators in trying to pass laws serving as an advocate for teachers.
